Moreover, this kind of issue can be related to UAC, I recommend you toturn off UAC in Windows Vista , if you have installed any security software, try to uninstall the security application as well.

Windows Update won't update - gives error message 'WindowsUpdate_80070490' 'WindowsUpdate_dt000'
How do I fix or repair the update process?
1. I ran the System Update Readiness tool (Checksur.exe) - (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/ )
It did not resolve the issue.

Originally I thought it may have just been the printer updates that were not updating - but looking at the recent message, I think it
has been resolved.
Update - I have attached the updated issue after running the Readiness Tool two times.
